Recap & Review

This is a wonderful - and current! -  book about one day in the lives of 7 real children around the globe. It's a genuine look at the rhythm of their days - a comparison of traditions that are different and those which reflect common experiences. The kids are from Italy, Japan, Peru, Uganda, Russia, India and Iran.

Parents' Simplicity Credo
Love people and admire our differences.

Reading Suggestions

While a bit longer and more detailed than most bedtime stories, This Is How We Do It is a strong choice for the calming/transition time between dinner and bedtime. I would sit with my child - grandchild - and simply explore each page, talking about what we see. Exploring the similarities and differences to our own experiences and traditions.

I would also read this book with my child while learning about geography - continents and countries will stick in a child's memory if she can associate it with what she knows about children who live there.

Reading it for either purpose reinforces the idea that the differences between people are worthy of admiration.

Matt Lamoche

Lamothe, an animator, illustrator and inventor, is the coauthor of The Exquisite Book, The Where, the Why and the How, and The Who, the What, and the When. You simply must read the author bio on the book jacket's back flap - it mirrors the information about the children's lives!
