Compassion, Ingenuity & Persistence
Not famine, nor dropping out of school, nor the lack of materials could prevent Kamkwamba from finding a way to build a windmill so that his family could have electricity for light and to pump water to their crops. His compassion, ingenuity and persistence are deeper than the 40-foot well in his backyard and Kamkwamba's story is encouraging for anyone who wants to figure out how to make things work to help other people.
Book, Movie and Moving Windmills
If you are interested in reading along with your child, you could read Kamkwamba's full biography of the same title. There is also the Netflix movie to share as a family. Finally, there is the Moving Windmills Project inspired by Kamkwamba's story -- check out the information about the new Moving Windmills Innovation Center.
