Lara Hawthorne

Hawthorne is a children's book author and illustrator, as well as a freelance artist creating prints and album covers. Her first illustrated book was Carol Ann Duffy's 2016 Christmas poem, The King of Christmas. Since then five of her own picture books have been published.

Wonder

Sometimes wonder is hard to come by when we are quite familiar with the song or the story. We know "Silent Night" -- why we know it is a fascinating story all on its own --  but the illustrations here give the lyrics a quirky, humorous take! The shepherds are dancing more than quaking, the glories streaming are stars blown about by acrobatic angels, and the kings, shepherds and animals are just hanging out with the family.

I won't be able to sing the carol this year without wondering if angels really are acrobatic -- wouldn't you if you had wings?!
