We Need People to Admire & Emulate

Living a life-well lived requires role models -- people who have thrived in life the way we want to thrive -- and a life-time of practice! The challenge is figuring out what thriving looks like and finding people -- real people -- to emulate.  So what does a life-well lived look like for you? What does it look like for your kiddos?

Once we know the qualities important for our children to emulate, then we need to find some outstanding people to share with them.

And children love to learn about real heroes!  This month we are reading books about athletes, artists and scientists -- these are amazing people who are worthy of sharing with your kiddos.

Athletes

What do basketball, baseball, surfing, diving, running and tennis have in common? Athletes who are bigger than life!
  • James Naismith
  • Sammy Lee
  • Mamie Johnson
  • Jim Thorpe
  • Duke Kahanamoku
  • Serana Williams
  • Venus Williams
  • William Hoy
  • The Rockford Peaches & The Racine Belles

Artists

We are better people because of the artists from around the world who share their gifts with us - gifts like music, dancing, sculpture, drawing & painting, and poetry.
  • Maya Lin
  • Celia Cruz
  • Jean-Michel Basquat
  • Jose Guadalupe Posada
  • Horace Pippin
  • Maya Angelou
  • The International Sweethearts of Rhythm

Scientists

Thank goodness for the enduring trait of curiosity and stubborn doggedness - aka perseverance: scientists & inventors who are fascinated with very specific questions about the world embody both qualities.
  • Margaret E. Knight
  • William Beebe
  • Venetia Burney
  • Eugenie Clark
  • Lonnie Johnson
  • Sylvia Earle

It's a month of more than 20 people who are worthy of our children's time and admiration!
