Book Synopsis

I Am Enough is a rhyming picture book about a brown-skinned little girl in an inclusive world of girls who wear glasses, use a wheelchair, wear a head scarf or have a big Afro unconditionally accept one another. Learning Options

Family Read Aloud Time
I Am Enough is more of a look-aloud than read-aloud book. Girls will love seeing themselves reflected in diverse ways.

Classroom Resource
Reading is Resistance -- based in North Portland -- offers a developmentally appropriate and simple guided reading anti-bias/anti-racist lesson plan for Kindergarten and primary grades based on I Am Enough with additional reading suggestions.

Learning at Home
Education is based in values. Teaching children to value equality requires clear instruction on diverse cultures -- your own and many others. And it's important to begin this work by
  • modeling culturally responsive behavior,
  • choosing learning resources that are inclusive of other cultures, and
  • actively teaching empathy.
