1998, Dempsey Parr
"An encyclopedia is a book that contains all kinds of information. In this children's encyclopedia, the information is presented in six sections: Earth and Space, Science, Human Body, Animals, Long Long Ago, and People & Places."

"In this book, every page is filled with information on the sort of topics that you will enjoy reading about. Information is given in photographs and illustrations, as well as in words."

Neil Morris

Morris worked as a publisher, lexicographer and film editor before becoming a writer and children's book editor. His work is almost exclusively information books. He is fascinated by the research and tries "to make the topic  – whether it's ancient history, modern geography, or future technology – as interesting and accessible as possible."  Morris has written over a hundred books which can be found in public and school libraries around the world.

Learning Options

Family Read Aloud Time
This is a large book, perfect for sitting on the floor and slowly turning the pages. Most children will want to "read" it on their own.

Classroom Resource
Every classroom needs many different information books, but DK offers smaller encyclopedias more suitable for the classroom.

Learning at Home
It's unusual to recommend a 20-year-old information book for learning at home, but this one is still an excellent resource.

You will not find it at the Library, but can purchase it through online used bookstores.
