"Murk is seven years old and lives in Pakistan. Like 97 percent of the population of Pakistan, Murk is a Muslim. Her favorite time of year is Eid, which is when Muslims celebrate friends and family after fasting (limiting when the eat) for a month. Aside from Eid, Murk's favorite thing is her pet goat."

Doris Kindersley Publishing (DK)

Initially, in 1974, DK was set up as a book packager with the purpose of editing and designing complicated books for ease in publishing. But by 1982 DK was a publisher in its own right. A DK book has a distinctive design, is easily recognizable and worth every penny because of the beauty of their design and their accuracy.

Learning Options

Family Read Aloud Time
Children love to learn about other children and this is a perfect book for hours of looking-aloud together. Some kiddos may even want to visit their new "friends"!

Classroom Resource
An excellent, age-appropriate resource for learning geography and culture, CHILDREN Just Like Me is essential for primary classroom libraries.

Learning at Home
I love that this book opens with "Making a Difference" highlighting the common concerns expressed by the children in the book: access to education, animal welfare, health care, the environment, and poverty. There are age  appropriate suggestions on what children can do to make a difference in these areas.
