Family Read Aloud Time
While a bit energetic for a bedtime read aloud, All Around Us is a must-read with your family. I simply cannot say enough good things about the beauty of this book - visually, as well as conceptually. I particularly appreciate that the story is told through a Grandfather and Granddaughter's eyes. Learning at Home Many home learning families use linear timelines when teaching history. What if we taught history using circular timelines - would we visualize history differently? Would the world look more connected? SlideHunter offers a free template which is good place to start. Classroom Options While All Around Us is an excellent book to add to an elementary classroom, it is also an ideal book to use at middle and high school when teaching about the diverse cultures found in the United States. For example, include it in a small picture book library to accompany the PBS Learning Media Finding Your Roots lessons about colonization and the deep roots many families have in our country.
Gonzalez and Garcia are childhood friends who grew up together in San Antonia and still get together for dreams and tacos. Where Wonder Grows is their most recent collaboration, published in January, 2022.
