Dear Farmhouse Diary, What a week. Following last week's evacuation from the Canby area by Daughter and Son-in-Law, Little Guy brought his parents to stay with us since the air quality in Bend was horrific. I drove them back to Bend just yesterday and it was beautiful -- the sun was shining and the smoke was minimal. I miss the sun.
Do you know how busy two-year-olds are? Little Guy is a force -- creative, strong, kind -- and constantly moving.
I am so impressed with Daughter and Son-in-law's parenting -- Little Guy's curiosity and sense of self are never ending but they are right there with him. Setting boundaries, guiding, explaining and doing it in the midst of a very difficult season. Canby's evacuation alerts were removed!! Daughter and Son-in-law have returned home and must begin the process of cleaning cinders off window sills, wiping smoke-dust off every surface and washing the aroma of smoke from fabrics in addition to unpacking. Sometime I would like to write about how impressed I am with Millenials and Gen-Zers in general -- they've gotten an undeserved rap when we should be awestruck by their flexibility and perseverance and accomplishments. More canning. The Boss's brother and sister-in-law gave us pounds of fresh plums -- they are beautiful and delicious. It's been a couple of years since I made plum jam, but we had so many plums I was able to make two different jams! I'm pretty sure one of them will end up being either a very soft set or plum syrup, but it will still taste delicious especially on homemade ice cream.... Now if only our air was breathable.
