I'd like to invite you to make a cup of coffee or tea, turn on some music and for the next 10 minutes sit quietly. Push the pause button on your day. Enjoy the view out your window, write in your journal, read the newspaper -- print or digital -- or explore something which makes your curious.

If you are interested in exploring emotional intelligence, check out the following resources while drinking your coffee.
  • The Psychology Today article is a short intro to the importance of teaching emotional intelligence to our children.
  • Optimal Living Daily is a solid parenting & relationship podcast from the Gottman Institute; you can jump past the introduction -- although it is very sweet -- to the 4-minute mark to get to the heart of this particular episode.
  • I am currently reading Dr. Dodgen-Magee's Deviced! which examines the development of self and social relatedness -- the essence of emotional intelligence -- in our digitally connected world.

Today's final resource is a book! The Amazon link is provided for information and in no way is intended to encourage you to purchase the resource through the link -- track it down at your public library or purchase it at your local bookstore.
  • Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child, The Heart of Parenting by John Gottman and Daniel Goleman originally published in 1997 and updated in 2011.
Enjoy your coffee or tea!  And experience the renewal which comes from purposefully pausing in your day to reconnect with yourself.

With much prayer & love,
Nonna

    Purpose

Coffee breaks are meant to create white space in the midst of the day's  activities and emotions!

Nonna's Coffee Breaks should give you a tidbit to think about, a good laugh, or just something to look at while you enjoy a cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa.
